Mountain Fever Records Announces the Addition of ClayBank to the Label

North Carolina Band Set to Release New Music Spring 2018

Willis, VA (December 14, 2017)—Mountain Fever Records is pleased to announce the addition of North Carolina-based bluegrass band, ClayBank, to their roster. ClayBank will release their debut album for Mountain Fever Records Spring 2018.

ClayBank is a new and impressive bluegrass band born out of the fertile musical ground of western North Carolina. The unique story of the formation of the group centers on a bluegrass veteran, who joined forces with a fellow picker in his mid-20s, and two talented teenage musicians that are about to be introduced to the greater bluegrass world. Gary Trivette is the elder statesman of ClayBank, a bassist and banjo player who has previously played with groups such as Carolina Crossing and Southern Accent. While sitting in a side room at the Appalachian State Old-time Fiddler’s Convention in Boone, NC, in 2015, he found himself jamming with then 15-year-old mandolinist Zack Arnoldand guitarist Jacob Greer who was 17. As fate would have it, Trivette’s former Carolina Crossing band mate Tyler Thompson knew both Greer and Arnold from an early age. Soon, after all of the future members of ClayBank realized they had a connection with each other, the foursome established a weekly jam session with Thompson playing the banjo, Trivette on bass, Arnold on the mandolin, and Greer on guitar. As the musicians got to know each other and their blend began to evolve, it was the lead and harmony vocals of the quartet that began to turn heads. Named after the street in Ashe County where their weekly jams took place, ClayBank began to test the bluegrass waters by entering band contests at various festivals. They won the bluegrass band competition at the Union Grove Fiddler’s Convention in April of 2015 and came in 3rd place at the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) convention’s band contest in 2016. That same year, they won the bluegrass band competition at RenoFest.

Though years apart in age, ClayBank's band mates are on the same page as far as the bluegrass trail they want to explore. “They like the same kind of driving bluegrass music that I do,” says Trivette. “It is strange to find people with that difference in age that enjoy the same music. As for the young men in the band, I can give them some of the history of bluegrass music, but they already know a lot about it. Our musical style can basically be found between 1980 and 1999 or so, influenced by Doyle Lawson’s original Quicksilver band.”

ClayBank’s debut album on Mountain Fever Records can be expected May 2018 and will feature mostly original songs written or co-written by the band. The group’s impressive array of three lead vocalists is complimented by their collective church-inspired ability to sing harmony vocals. All of that is buoyed by their awesome multi-generational musicianship. The band is filled with youth and a modern approach to bluegrass music while at the same time showing reverence for the traditional side of the genre.

4/14/2016 - THE ANDREA ROBERTS AGENCY SIGNS CLAYBANK  (Blue Poncho Media)

Nashville, TN (April 14, 2016) – The Andrea Roberts Agency (ARA) is pleased to announce the signing of new band, ClayBank, to an artist development deal that will include booking and management duties for the group.  They will be joining The Grascals, Flatt Lonesome, Steve Gulley & New Pinnacle, Wildfire, and Volume Five on the roster of ARA artists.
ClayBank, from the mountains of western North Carolina that are steeped in the musical heritage of bluegrass, old-time and gospel music, is quickly gaining fans and causing promoters to take notice of their fast-rising popularity.  Although the band was formed just one year ago (April 2015), they have become instant crowd favorites at their performances with their impeccable musicianship, rousing vocals and fun-loving stage presence.

In February 2016, ClayBank ventured to Nashville to compete for the first time in the SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) National Band Championship where they walked away with 3rd place honors and hundreds of new fans.  On March 25, 2016, the ensemble travelled to Hartsville, SC to compete in the band competition at RenoFest (an event honoring Bluegrass Hall of Famer, Don Reno) and took home 1st place honors.

ClayBank consists of youngsters Zack Arnold (15) on mandolin and vocals and Jacob Greer (17) on guitar and vocals along with Tyler Thompson on banjo and vocals and Gary Trivette on bass and vocals. The band takes their name from the community of ClayBank (near West Jefferson, NC) that is not only where they meet to hone their craft, but the place that embodies the very spirit of the music which they play.   The band members are not related by blood, but are knit-tightly by their love of the music and their love for the Lord.

When asked about adding ClayBank to the ARA roster for booking representation and management, Andrea Roberts responded with the following:

"When I saw this group perform live in Nashville earlier this year, I was so happy to hear a new, young band playing bluegrass music and representing the genre with such great respect and outstanding talent.  Then, after getting to know the band members, I hoped that it may be possible for me to work with them because I really believe in what they are doing.  I am thrilled to be helping ClayBank on their journey in the world of bluegrass.  I truly feel that folks are going to love them! "

ClayBank guitarist, Jacob Greer, had this to say about the announcement, “We are thrilled to be on the ARA roster for management and booking!  I can’t imagine a better person to represent ClayBank than Andrea Roberts and we sincerely appreciate her confidence in us.”

Bass player, Gary Trivette added, “It is a blessing and honor for us to get to work Andrea and we are proud to be part of the ARA family!”

Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open for ClayBank.  The future is looking very bright for this new band and there are sure to be more exciting announcements soon.

“In 2015, I booked ClayBank for the Main Stage at the Doc and Rosa Lee Watson MusicFest in Sugar Grove, NC and, because of the response they received,  when it came time to book for 2016 ClayBank was the first call I made. In the past year they have not only had accolades heaped upon them but have genuinely honed their craft to an even finer edge.  In a very crowded field of talented musicians ClayBank still manages to stand out.”

- JD Dooley (Chairman, Doc and Rosa Lee Watson MusicFest 'n Sugar Grove)

“ClayBank has a grand way of covering the timeless bluegrass standards with ease but are also accomplished at writing their own original material. Whether it is an instrumental or lyrics the band exhibits the talents of master craftsmen. With a youthful zeal, Zack Arnold, Jacob Greer and Tyler Thompson are an even match to Gary Trivette’s tremendous talent and love of the music. Their powerful on-the-note harmonies and lead vocals will keep you on the edge of your seat with that little hair-raising chill up the back of your neck that tells you the music is good.  They are comfortable and at home on the stage and they perform with an excitement that energizes their audience.”

- Vivian Hopkins (President, North Carolina Bluegrass Association)
